Due to scheduling problems at Nokomis Community Center, we had to move to the nearby Keewaydin Community Center, which turned out to have quite a large nice meeting room that we might want to consider using more. People trickled in until we had a pretty good turnout, though again light on show and tell material.

Mark Stonich says the reason he is so far behind on getting meeting web pages published is that he has been working way too much on shortened cranks (ten sets already this month, and it's only the 8th). Every time it seems to slow down a little, he gets another mention in an RCN article, editorial, or letter or another favorable mention on Bent Rider Online. Then another surge in orders and inquiries. At least he is learning a lot about different kinds of cranks and which ones work best for shortening.

(The money's nice, but I'm supposed to be retired. Mark)

While we waited for a meeting to break out we killed time schmoozing, greeting Denis on his return from Mexico (complete with disgusting tan), and discussing the oddities of tire sizes for some newer members who hadn't heard this rant before. The issue was raised by Carl's composite spoked 26 inch wheels that were noticeably smaller than Dave Siskind's 26 inch English bike wheels. Be warned that the only unambiguous way to designate a wheel or tire is with the ISO rim bead diameter in millimeters, since there tend to be several incompatible rim sizes called the same nominal size (like 26 inch), and even the ones that used to be close to the nominal spec for rolling diameter may be quite different with narrower modern tires mounted instead of the old tire size it was originally based on. For example a 406 mm 20 inch wheel with a fat tire may be roughly 20 inches in diameter and also roughly similar to a 451 mm 20 incher with a narrow tire, but put a narrow Stelvio tire on the 406 and it isn't even close to a 20 inch outer diameter any more.
